Year 6 Blog 24.4.26

Date: 24th Apr 2026 @ 11:55am

This week, the children have learned about the Subjunctive Form and how we use it to make our writing more fomral. They have then used this to write poems based on the though "If I were a teacher...." with some amazing ideas shown on how they would change the education system. We have continued our revision of previous learning by re-covering apostrophes in grammar and percentages of a number and long division in maths.

The children have secured their knowledge of light in science by creating illustrated diagrams explaining how we see and have also completed some research into the 5 boroughs of New York. We have practised formatting cells on spreadsheets in computing and looked into the Bible for parts of the Eucharist in the various Gospels.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the SATs and Dearne meeting on Wednesday; the powerpoint and kit list is available on the school website. Any questions or queries should come to the Year 6 Staff at the end of the school day or via the Year Group email.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
