Year 6 Blog 1.5.26

Date: 1st May 2026 @ 3:09pm

The children are ramping up their preparation for the next few week by focussing in on their weaknesses and how they can improve themselves. We have focussed in on using Standard English in grammar, changing slang terms to correct English. The children have enjoyed the challenge of solving algebraic equations and word problems involving decimals.

Science has seen us look at how mirrors help us to see objects and the children will use this knowledge when building periscopes next week (make sure to get any cardboard boxes in for Tuesday!). They have also continued to look at the human and physical geographical elements of the different boroughs of New York City, comparing and contrasting them. In Computing, the children have looked at using simple formulaes in spreadsheets to calculate totals and products of numbers.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
