Year 5 Blog 9/1/2026

Date: 9th Jan 2026 @ 4:16pm

A huge welcome back from the Christmas break. We hope you had a restful and joyus time.

It's been another action packed week.

We started our topic of the Vikings, looking at where they originated from and a brief introduction to the key events that Britain experienced during their... visit.

Our English kicks off with The Nowhere Emporium with a week of reading, discussing and exploring the opening chapters in great detail. We are so impressed with the discussion that has been generated in this week and look forward to their Build-Up work beginning.

Maths sees us exploring the fantastic field of fractions: comparing, ordering, equivilating and a adding a whole host of fractions.

Outdoor PE focusses on Basketball this half term, with 5R taking up Yoga for indoor PE. 5W begin the excitement of swimming this week which will remain until the half term break.

With the intensity of this weeks lessons and return to school, as a year group, we have decided to give the pupils a much deserved break for home learning. This will be provided to them on their return and will not be expected until Friday.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend and look forward to Monday's return!

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
