Year 5 Blog - 5/6/26

Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 4:08pm

A short few days on our return but a whirlwind of learning.

In Maths, we have begun a short unit of Position and Direction, looking at graphs, axes, translation and co-ordinates. The children have done well with this, so far.

English sees the beginning of our writing on The Piano by Aidain Gibbons. This is a very emotional piece of writing which has already created some beautiful discussion throughout the classes.

On Wednesday, we welcomed a group of volunteers who delivered a wonderful presentation on Formby Lifeboat station over the years as they celebrate 250 year anniversary. The children are going to be creating a series of Art which will take shape over the next 3 weeks.

P.E. has our new topic of Cricket. Unfortunately, the weather was rather rubbish on Wednesday, which reduced what we were able to do. Please send a prayer to the Mayan rain god to leave us alone on Wednesdays!

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
