Well, it’s the last day of another busy half term and the sun is now shining just in time for an extended half term break.

This week we finally completed our writing topic about plastic pollution, and the children produced some super pieces of persuasive writing. During the topic, they really immersed themselves into the dangers of single use plastic and ways in which we can reduce this. This was also the topic that we used in our guided reading activities.

In maths, we completed our shape topic and have now packed our protractors away safe in the knowledge that we are confident in measuring and drawing angles. It has been great to see so many children creating their own challenges for others to try to solve. Some have included obscure pentagons where the challenge is to predict, name and measure each angle so that the interior angles add up to (n-2)x180. N being the number of sides.

In computing, the children came into their own, focussing on their creative sides whilst planning, making and filming their own short films using a variety of filming techniques learnt in previous lessons. Next half term, they will transfer these to IMovie and edit their video clips.

In DT, the children have continued this creativity by making pop up designs to help bring their York scrapbooks to life. This brought back lots of happy memories from the residential.

In music, the children tried their hand at looping and mixing music by taking a segment from ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ and mixing it with a back beat. It was a somewhat lively lesson!

In dance, the children continued to work on their motifs for our British Values dance routine. They worked brilliantly in supporting one another and rehearsing sequences choreographed by different children.

In Latin, we learnt about prepositions and were able to translate – Porcus super villa est. What do you think it means???

On Wednesday, it was number day, and we all had the opportunity to spend some fun learning time with our buddies out on the orienteering course. The Y5’s answered Y5 questions and supported the Y1’s with their questions.

In RE, the children learnt about zaket in Islam and used this to reflect on the importance of generosity in their own lives.

Well, it’s now time to bid you a safe, sunny and enjoyable half term.

See you all in June!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
