Year 5 Blog 19/06/26

This week seems to have flown by! It feels strange that there is only 4 weeks to go!

In maths, we have concluded our topic of position and direction and moved on to growing fluency with decimals. The children have looked at recognising patterns between adding 4 digit numbers and adding decimals.

In English, our build up work is now complete for the 'Piano' writing. We look forward to deepening the emotive writing next week.

In science, we have dissected Lilies and created an arrangement of the various parts of the reproductive system of the flower. Next week, we will look at the life cycles of mamals, amphibians and insects to compare and contrast the differences and similarities.

In computing, we continued our journey into the world of Crumble's, adding motors to our systems and creating a disco-dancing character.

Our dance routine based on British Values is taking shape and we are now confident in performing the whole class motif to the James Bond Theme.

In outdoor games, we took a diversion from cricket to test our golfing skills. There were a large number of clean strikers of the ball and some accurate positioning into the school fairway/field. 

In PSHE, we discussed the role of parliament, looking at the systems in place and a who's-who of our democratic system. 

We finished the week with the Reading and Arithmetic papers of our final assements for Year 5. We are so proud of the effort that the children have put in to showing off their skills in these areas. Next week will conclude year 5's testing with mathematics reasoning, spelling, punctuation and grammar quizzes taking place.
