Year 5 Blog 1.5.26

Date: 1st May 2026 @ 3:53pm

What a fantastic week we have had after our exciting trip to York!

The children have worked really hard this week. Over the week, we have began looking at the history of Formby focussing on land use around the area and looking at historical maps. It would be useful if the children could find some historical facts about Formby and bring them in next week.

In Maths we have begun and completed Statistics, looking at line graphs and tables. We move on to shape next week using protractors to measure angles and estimation of unknown angles.

English motors ahead with our plastic pollution writing, it is lovely to see how passionate, excited and eager the children are to persuade against single-use plastic.

5R have had their final swimming lesson this week, completing a block of 5. They thoroughly enjoyed the fun activites they took part in today and during the sessions.

Next week both classes will have their Golden Ticket celebration as well as a farewell doo for the delightful Ms. Humphreys.

In Computing the children have been exploring video creation using a range of different camera techniques/angles. This was enjoyed by all.

We hope you have a fantastic bank holiday weekend full of rest.

The Year 5 team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
