Year 5 Blog - 13th March 2026

Date: 13th Mar 2026 @ 11:14am

This week in Year 5 we have had an amazing time celebrating Science Week, organised by Miss Murdock. It has been a very exciting week full of learning, curiosity and inspiring visitors.

Throughout the week we welcomed lots of different experts who came to talk to us about a variety of STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). We met an expert in artificial intelligence who showed us how computers can learn and solve problems. We also heard from a space expert who taught us fascinating facts about space exploration and the universe.

We were lucky to meet an aviation expert who explained how forces and electronics help planes fly and how pilots rely on technology to travel safely around the world. An engineering expert visited us to talk about why it is important for more women to work in engineering. They also showed us some of the amazing things engineers can create and explained the many different jobs involved in the construction industry – we even had the opportunity to dress up and imagine ourselves working on a building site!

We also learned about computer coding and how programs are built, and an image analysis expert showed us how technology can study pictures and data in incredible ways. It was amazing to see how technology can help solve problems in the real world.

We asked lots of brilliant questions and discovered many new and fascinating things. This week has really opened our eyes to the exciting opportunities that could be available to us in the future. A big thank you to all our visitors and to Miss Murdock for organising such a fantastic Science Week!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
