Year 4 Blog 9.10.26

Date: 9th Oct 2026 @ 12:42pm

We can hardly believe we are getting so close to the end of our first half term in Year 4! The children have been working incredibly hard and continue to impress us with their enthusiasm, resilience and fantastic attitude towards their learning. We are so proud of everything they have achieved so far!

In Maths, the children have been busy developing their addition and subtraction skills. They have been learning to add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s and 1,000s, and have worked hard to become more confident when solving different problems.

In Art, the children have continued to develop their sketching techniques. They have been experimenting with the pressure they use when drawing, discovering how lighter and darker marks can create different effects and bring their sketches to life. It has been wonderful to see their creativity developing!

In RE, we have continued to explore the question of whether Jesus was inspiring because of his actions. The children shared some thoughtful and detailed ideas during our discussions. They particularly enjoyed working collaboratively to re-enact the story of the Feeding of the 5,000, bringing the story to life in a fun and memorable way!

In Science, the children have continued learning about states of matter. They have explored how particles are arranged in solids, liquids and gases and even worked together in groups to physically demonstrate the different states. We certainly had some very creative scientists in the classroom!
The children also enjoyed their first walk to church with their buddies to attend the Year 3 Harvest Assembly. It was lovely to see the children walking together, chatting with their buddies and showing such wonderful behaviour along the way. We were very proud of them!

Home Learning for this week: -

Doodle Maths – Round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 (up to and beyond 1,000)

Doodle spelling – describe, decide, continue, consider, centre, certain, century.

As we approach the end of our first half term, we would like to say a huge well done to all of Year 4! They have made such a positive start to the year, and we are excited to see what they will achieve next.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and encouragement with your child’s learning. It really does make a difference!

We hope you all have a well-deserved and wonderful half term break!

Many thanks,
The Year 4 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
