Year 4 Blog 19.6.26

Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 11:50am

What a lovely week we have had in Year 4! The weather has been beautiful, and we have enjoyed making the most of the sunshine while continuing to work hard in our lessons.

In Maths, we have been learning about hundredths as both fractions and decimals. The children have explored how hundredths can be represented on a place value chart and have been developing their understanding of the relationship between fractions and decimals. We have been impressed with the confidence the children have shown when reading, writing and comparing decimal numbers.

In English, we have begun writing descriptions of the digestive system. So far, we have focused on explaining what happens from the mouth to the throat, using scientific vocabulary and clear explanations. We are looking forward to continuing our journey through the digestive system over the coming weeks.

In Geography, we have been using both atlases and digital maps to identify and locate the physical features of Europe. The children have enjoyed comparing different types of maps and developing their map-reading skills while learning about Europe's mountains, rivers and other natural landmarks.

In Art, we have been studying the work of the contemporary artist and sculptor Thomas J Price. We explored how he creates large-scale sculptures that celebrate ordinary people and represent modern life. The children had thoughtful discussions about the messages behind his work and how art can reflect society.

In PE, they excitedly enjoyed the challenge maps to guide them around a grid. They also had fun using some of the equipment, in practise for Sport’s Day.

Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of learning!

The Year 4 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
