Year 3 Weekly Blog 16.5.24

Date: 16th May 2025 @ 5:10pm

What a scorching week it’s been! Despite the heat, Year 3 have shown fantastic resilience. We’ve been reminding everyone to stay hydrated and to wear their sun hats whenever we're outside.

It’s hard to believe how quickly we’re approaching the end of this half term. But when we reflect on the incredible work the children have produced, it’s easy to see why time has flown.

In English, we began planning our next independent writing piece. This will be inspired by a dramatic battle – a thrilling showdown between a gladiator and a wild animal. The children are already full of ideas and excitement!

In Maths, we’ve been working on calculating the perimeters of simple 2D shapes. Your child has brought home a homework sheet today to practise these skills – please ensure it’s completed and returned by next Wednesday.

Our History lessons took us on a journey through Roman Britain. We explored key events, from the Roman invasion to the lasting legacy they left behind.

In Outdoor Games, we practised our wicket-keeping skills, taking turns and building confidence. Meanwhile, in Indoor PE, we continued developing our Roman-themed dances, this week adding travelling movements to bring our choreography to life.

A real highlight of the week was our trip to Wales on Thursday. The full-scale Roman Fort was nothing short of incredible, and the soldiers who greeted us were impressively authentic. The children took part in a variety of fantastic activities: building Roman-style roads, practising spear throws to fend off rival cavalry, and perfecting their ‘slow march’ like true Roman legionaries. It was a fantastic day, and one we’re sure the children will remember for years to come.

Finally, in DT on Friday, we began constructing our very own castles using recycled materials we’ve been collecting over the past few weeks. Following our plans carefully, we ensured each castle included essential features like a drawbridge and a flag. The builds are already looking strong and impressive – next week, we’ll be adding decorations and final touches to bring them to life!

Well done to all of Year 3 for another fantastic week! Have a brilliant weekend in the sunshine.

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
