What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 3!
In Geography, we’ve been exploring the capital cities of the UK, discovering fascinating facts about each one. We also looked at the similarities and differences between the four countries of the UK, and began learning about topographical features. Throughout Year 3, we’ve been practising how to scan texts for key information to answer questions more accurately. We’re also working on increasing our reading speed and improving comprehension which really helps in subjects like Geography and History. The children are developing fantastic strategies to become more efficient readers!
In Maths, we’ve been getting hands-on with money - counting coins, adding totals, and solving problems. A highlight was choosing 5 coins with friends and challenging each other to make the same amount using different combinations. Great teamwork and thinking!
Science has been all about shadows! We asked big questions like “What is a shadow?”, “Why can’t we see colours in it?” and “Do shadows change size during the day?” We had fun drawing around our shadows on the playground with chunky chalk and experimenting with torches and shadow puppets in our dark classrooms!
We had our final Big Sing rehearsal this week with Mr Manning from Liverpool Cathedral - everyone sounded absolutely brilliant! We can't wait to perform for you at the Cathedral on Thursday and show off everything we’ve been learning since September.
As we look ahead to our move into Year 4, we’ve started thinking about change - how it can feel a little scary, but also exciting. On Friday, we met our new teachers, Mrs Cocks or Miss Murdock, who really enjoyed getting to know the class. The children returned full of smiles and enthusiasm, and we’re all looking forward to another transition morning on Friday 11th July.
Finally, we’ve been practising hard for our Sports Day at Range High on Monday. We hope to see many of you there cheering us on - fingers crossed for dry weather!
Thank you for your continued support.
