Year 3 Blog 27.02.26

Date: 27th Feb 2026 @ 4:20pm

Welcome back!

Our first week out of five is complete and we are so happy to have the children back. They have come back smiling and eager to learn.

Year 3 have started their new focus text in Writing called ‘My Strong Mind.’ This book has fantastic cross-curricular links with PSHE as it teaches children how to develop resilience when things are tough. The children are using this book to write a set of instructions about how to grow a strong mind. As part of this, the children followed instructions to make an origami boat. They lay on the floor and placed it on their tummies and watched it move up and down for a calming activity.

In Maths this week, Year 3 have been looking at Measurement. The children have looked at measuring in centimetres, millimetres and metres. Important learning included:

  • There are 100 centimetres in a metre
  • There are 10 millimetres in a centimetre

In Class Worship, our topic was gratitude and how this impacts our wellbeing. Year 3 learned that even if they don’t always get what they want, it is important to always be grateful for the things they do have.

In PE, we have started our new topics of Handball and Indoor Athletics. In Handball, the children have been developing their pass (Javelin style) and in Athletics, the children have practiced their sprinting and their agility on the agility ladder.

Home Learning

The homework for this week has been set on Doodle, named ‘Use remainders in division.’ This is something we have worked really hard on in Maths and it is practiced in Morning Motivator. Please ensure this is completed by Wednesday so that your child receives a stamp!

Next week

Next Thursday (5th March) is World Book Day. The children can dress up as a character from a book or come to school in their pyjamas. Our English lesson on Thursday will be entirely reading for pleasure focused so please send your child in with their favourite book to read!

Have a lovely weekend,

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
