Ready for our Harvest Service!

What a busy week we’ve had! The children have been working so hard practising for the Harvest Service. They are super excited to perform in church and sing all the lovely Harvest songs. Harvest links beautifully to our Christian value of ‘Thankfulness’, helping us to reflect on things we should be thankful for and who we should be thankful to.

Some children may have had lines sent home to learn. Please learn these with your child to boost their confidence.

Please also practice some songs if possible!

We hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Important – Don’t forget! Year 3 are in full school uniform on Monday for our Church service, bringing an outdoor games kit and trainers in a bag with them, to get changed into after lunch time.

The children have been extremely musical too, singing beautifully in Worships and in their singing lessons, as well as learning ‘Mary had a little lamb’ on the glockenspiels. We first learned the song in a straight rhythm (all notes being the same length) then in a swung rhythm like how jazz music is played. Some children then performed to the class and received a well-deserved round of applause. Each child’s efforts were phenomenal.

This week in Grammar, we’ve been focusing on when to use ‘a’ and ‘an´ in a sentence. The rule we’ve been practicing is that we use ‘a’ before words that begin with a consonant sound (like “a dog”) and ‘an’ before words that begin with a vowel sound (like “an apple”). We’ve also continued to read our class novel, Charlotte’s Web, enjoying themes of friendship, kindness and resilience in the story so far.

The children have been combining their knowledge of place value (hundreds, tens and ones) with addition and subtraction, adding ones, tens and hundreds to different numbers. The children spotted that when adding ones, the number in the one column changes. When adding tens, the number in the tens column changes and the same occurs for hundreds.

Home Learning

Our home learning this week is not set on Doodle. Your child has been given a printed sheet to complete which is to be handed in the following Wednesday.

This maths follows on from their Place Value learning, partitioning (splitting) numbers into hundreds, tens and ones. On the sheet, there is an example done for you. Please use this as a guide for your child’s questions.

We’re now just under three weeks away from the end of our first term in Year 3 – time is flying by! We’ve really enjoyed all of the wonderful home learning tasks which have been completed already and brought into school. If your child still has tasks to complete from their home learning grid, now is a great time to stagger those activities. This way, they can still work at a relaxed pace, without feeling rushed. We can’t wait to see what they bring in!

We look forward to seeing you on Monday morning in Church.

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Year 3 Team.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

On Thursday next week we will be attending a Forest School day down at the Church gardens and Pine Woods. Your child will need waterproofs and wellies/walking boots as we will attend regardless of the weather.Whilst there we will also be making s’mores and hot chocolate. We are aware of the various food allergies within the year group but please speak to your child’s teacher if you have an issues with this. Thanks

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
