Week 2 complete!
On Monday, the children enjoyed their experience day of ‘living a life as a Gladiator’. They read more about the Romans through book browsing, they dressed up as different Romans, they created a gladiator training exercise regime as well as researched different types of gladiators on chromebooks. With this, the children will continue writing their diary entries as a Roman slave next week.
Year 3 have continued to learn fractions in Maths, specifically finding a fraction of a set of objects. For example ¼ of 92. They first did this practically with base 10/counters and then they progressed to division. Well done, Year 3!
This week, we looked closely at Earth Day which was celebrated on Wednesday 22nd. Year 3 learned about the differences between non-renewable and renewable resources and discovered that natural resources like coal will run out quicker than the Earth makes it. They also learned about the significant problem of plastic and the damage it is doing to the environment. We read an eye-opening and thought-provoking book called ‘A planet full of plastic’ and discussed why it was important to recycle and not be wasteful.
To link with this, our class worship focused on sustainable development and the ‘cost to the Earth’ if we do not look after it properly.
Our spelling unit has focused on words ending in -le, like kettle. The children have learned that this sound, when it comes at the end of a word, can sound like a ‘ul’, but it is important to remember that it is ‘le’.
Next week
On Monday, it is class photo day. It is our PE day but please send your child in wearing their school uniform. Please ensure they bring trainers for their afternoon PE lesson.
There will be no swimming on Friday 1st May for 3C. Swimming will remain the week after for 4 more sessions.
Home learning
This week, the home learning is different for each class. In 3C, homework has been set on Doodle, named ‘Finding ¼ of a quantity’ whilst 3R are recapping adding and subtracting fractions. Please ensure this is completed by Wednesday.
