What an excellent half term!

Autumn 1 has come to an end – it has been a longer half term but it has flown! The children have settled in brilliantly well and the Year 3 Team are super impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and progress made so far.

Year 3 have had an incredibly busy term. We conducted the Harvest Service in Church, we have planted seeds and bulbs, we took part in Forest School to immerse our senses in Autumn and we’ve made apple crumble and vegetable tarts!

This week has been super fun, some children even saying it was ‘The best week ever!’ We started with learning about seasonal foods and why eating them is good for our environment (when we import them, the food miles cause global warming). With apples being a seasonal fruit, we developed our peeling and cutting skills and made a delicious apple crumble. We enjoyed this with some custard in class.

After that, we broadened our seasonal food knowledge to vegetables and made tarts with puff pastry. As sweetcorn, mushroom, carrot and beetroot are seasonal vegetables, we chose 2 of these for our tart as well as a choice between tomato or pepper. We used pesto or tomato puree as our base and added cheese. We grated, chopped and peeled the vegetables ourselves! They had a 10/10 rating! However, through evaluation, the children did decide that they would probably change some things, like adding more cheese or not adding peppers.

We finished our science investigations too and looked at how our plants had grown. The plant with the warmth, light and water grew the best. The plants with no light or no water were dry and the leaves were crumbling and falling off. This proved to the children what plants need to grow.

In maths, we have continued focusing on column addition and subtraction with exchanging – the children are really getting the hang of it now! Miss Cook and Mrs Roberts are so proud of their progress. Keep practicing in half term if you can.

We have started our new indoor PE unit of yoga. The children really settled into a calm mindset, focusing on their breathing. We learned some yoga poses too, including the mountain pose, the tree pose and the cloud pose.

Home Learning

As it is half term, there has been no homework set on Doodle.

Please continue to read with your child and practice times tables wherever possible.

Have a lovely half term everybody!

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
