Year 3 Blog 23.1.26

Date: 23rd Jan 2026 @ 2:32pm

Another fabulous week

There was no rain on Monday so Year 3 were able to go outside and enjoy their basketball lesson. We focused on getting used to the ball and progressed to dribbling. The children had a go at dribbling stationary and whilst walking. We then completed some relays.

Our grammar focus this week has been Inverted Commas. The children have learned how to use them, practiced using them in Morning Motivator and applied this learning to their English work.

In Maths, we have looked at multiplying 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit number. At the beginning of the week, we practiced the formal method without exchanging numbers. For example, 22 x 3 = 66. On Wednesday, we moved on to include exchanging as the multiplication for the ones were greater than 10. For example 18 x 3 - 8 x 3 = 24, write the ones, exchange the 2 tens. We will continue to practice this going forward.

Year 3 have learned about the functions of the skeleton this week in Science. They include:

  • Protect major organs
  • Give us shape
  • Provide support for our bodies
  • Enable movement (Attachment for ligaments)
  • Produces blood cells

In English, Year 3 have now finished their story - The Incredible Book Eating Boy. For the next few weeks, the children will be planning and writing their own version of the story.

Class Worship focused on perseverance. We discussed how overcoming a struggle is a journey and to always try our best.

Home Learning

Homework has been set on Doodle Maths called ‘Write and calculate mathematical statements involving 2-digit by 1-digit numbers.’

Some children have a Maths sheet to complete instead.

Stationery

Please ensure your child has all the correct stationery needed for school. It is so important so that your child can access all learning materials and lessons can run smoothly. Lots of children have lent things to their friends which is lovely. However, their stuff has now run out because of it. Your child must have: a pencil case to fit their tray, sharp writing pencils, a red biro pen, a rubber, a sharpener, a highlighter, a ruler, a whiteboard pen and they can bring in colouring pencils too.

Thank you for your support,

Year 3

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
