The end of Summer 1

It is crazy to think that we are at the end of Summer 1 - the countdown to the end of the year really is on!

The children have had another brilliant week, much of it revolved around our topic of the Romans. The children have been learning about the Roman Legacy all this week and how they have impacted our lives today. The children know that the Romans were a huge influence on many things, including our roads, buildings, language and money. The children have produced a beautiful double-sided poster to illustrate all their knowledge.

In Maths, we have finished our unit on mass and capacity. The children have worked really hard on working out the scale and measuring different volumes, including litres and millimetres.

To link maths and history together, the children completed orienteering on the playground and the field, answering questions about the Romans.

The children then had another go at orienteering on Wednesday for numeracy day, answering questions about mass and capacity.

We have also come to the end of our RE unit, which looked at celebrating festivals in different religions. Despite the differences in beliefs, one common theme is that they are all celebrated for similar reasons, including to remember important events in the past and to belong together as one.

To link with the Romans topic, the children began their Latin lessons at the beginning of this term. This week, the children learned one of the most important lessons in order to understand Latin - it is not word order they used to make sense, it was word endings! As the endings of words change, it changes the order in which we read/say them. The children made sensible sentences, such as ‘The dog eats the bone’ and twisted it to make silly sentences like, ‘The bone eats the dog’ to distinguish the difference between English and Latin.

3R had a very exciting afternoon on Thursday - it was their Golden Ticket party! They came to school in their comfy PJ’s and enjoyed an afternoon watching films with their blankets and teddies. Well done 3R!

Home learning

As it is half term, the children don’t usually receive home learning. However, as we are going to be learning time next half term, the children have a practical time activity to complete which will support them to reinforce learning from previous years. Please ensure this is all completed and brought back into school on Wednesday 3rd June.

Next week

It is half term next week. We do not return to school on Monday 1st June as there are two inset days on Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd June. The children will return to school on Wednesday 3rd June for a 3-day week.

On the first week back, it is 3C’s last swimming slot. Please ensure your child has everything they need.

We hope you have a lovely half term - the weather looks delightful!

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
