Stone Age Week!
We have had a fantastic week learning all about the Stone Age! We had amazing visitors from Lunt who:
- Created an interactive timeline with us from the dinosaurs to now, displaying how long the Stone Age really was.
- Taught us about the changes of the Earth and how, when the Earth was Pangea, you could walk from Formby/Liverpool to places like the Netherlands.
- When it was the Middle Stone Age in Britain (Mesolithic period), it was the New Stone Age (Neolithic period) in other parts of the world.
- Taught us about the Stone Age people in general. A fun fact – in the Old Stone Age (Palaeolithic period), it has been proven that they wore fitted clothes. Scientists know this through the evolution of lice.
- Let us explore different Stone Age artefacts like animal skins, spear heads and animal skulls.
- Encouraged us to create our own piece of ‘Cave Art’ using different materials.
- Allowed us to experience, first-hand, how a fire is made.
We all learned so much and it was a day we will never forget!
We have also continued our History, answering our enquiry question, ‘How did Britain change during prehistory?’ We are looking at changes in the food, homes and tools from the Old Stone Age to the Iron Age. For example, in the Old Stone Age, the people were nomadic (moved around), whereas in the New Stone Age they settled in communities and farms.
We have learned a new spelling rule this week too. We have learned that to add the suffix ‘ing’ to a word that ends in ‘e’, you must drop the ‘e’ first then add ‘ing’. For example: make – making.
Our indoor PE unit, yoga, has been extremely relaxing after a busy week. We warm up with stretches and focused breathing and learn different yoga poses. We have learned so many! Some include: mountain pose, tree pose, butterfly pose, child’s pose, downward dog, cow pose and more.
Home Learning
Please continue completing the daily non-negotiable homework tasks.
This week, maths homework has been set on Doodle named ‘Use inverse operations to check calculations’.
This follows on from our Maths learning this week. We have learned that addition and subtraction are the inverse of one another, multiplication and subtraction are the inverse of one another and that inverse means ‘opposite.’ Please complete this with your child to further consolidate this learning.
Next week
On Wednesday 26th November, Year 3 are going to the cinema. How exciting! We will be there all morning. Please ensure your child arrives at school at normal time (no later than 8:45am) and pick up is also at normal time (3:20pm).
