A week of sunshine!

It has been delightful having the sun out this week - the children have loved playing in the sunshine and it’s been lovely having our classroom doors open.

Year 3 started this week with more science following on from last week. They were involved in a VR (Virtual Reality) experience which taught them all about the human body, including blood and the digestive system. They were captivated by what they saw to say the least! What a fantastic experience bringing learning to life.

They then enjoyed a crazy science show to end British Science Week.

Our unit of ‘My Strong Mind’ came in useful this week as the children wrote instructions on how to make jam sandwiches. The children made them on Tuesday and from there, had to write what they did step-by-step, including imperative verbs and top tips to support the reader.

Fractions is now our focus in maths. The children have learned that the denominator tells us how many EQUAL parts there are and the numerator is how many we have/are shaded. We looked at unit fractions and compared the size of these. ½ is greater than ¼ then learned about non-unit fractions (fractions with a numerator greater than 1).

As the sun was shining this week, we had our Wednesday worship outside in the Storytelling Garden. John from Church presented a lovely worship about Lent and how to donate to countries such as Rwanda and Lima.

Home Learning

To consolidate our learning in Maths, this week’s home learning has been set on Doodle, named ‘Compare and order unit fractions.’ Remember, the GREATER the denominator, the SMALLER the fraction as there are more equal parts. The SMALLER the denominator, the LARGER the fraction as there are less equal parts.

Please ensure this is completed by Wednesday.

Next Week

As it is our final week, the school are heading to St Luke’s Church on Tuesday morning to watch Year 4’s Easter Service.

Year 3 have made pneumatic toys this half term and are going to decorate them next week. The children have all chosen something, like an animal, to turn their toy into. Please bring in any decorative art items that you can for this, for example different coloured card and felt tips. Please ensure your child has access to a glue stick for this.

On Friday, it is ‘Wear a Hat’ day to donate to Brain Tumour Research. It is NOT a mufti day so please send your child into school wearing their PE Kit and a hat.

As we finish for the Easter Holidays on Friday, pick-up time is 2pm.

TTRS & Reading

Just a reminder to please ensure your child is accessing TTRS each night for 5 minutes and reading with you for 5 minutes too. We understand how busy life can be, however it is critical for your child’s learning.

Have a lovely weekend, fingers crossed for some sunshine!

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
