Week 3

The children have had another great week with lots of fun-filled activities.

One highlight of this week was our Science lesson on Wednesday. The children learned all about shadows and how they are formed. Thankfully the sun was shining so they went onto the playground and drew chalk around their partner’s shadows. As well as that, the children used torches to make shadows on their desks. They learned that the shorter the distance between the light source and the object, the larger the shadow and vice versa.

The children also learned about Rivers in Geography this week. Key points of learning include: the start of a river is called the source whilst the end is the mouth. The longest river in the UK is the River Severn and the longest river in England is the River Thames which happens to be in England’s capital city.

In Maths, the children are concluding their shape unit. Not only have they looked at 2D and 3D shapes, they have also learned about different lines, angles, turns and how to draw polygons using geometric paper.

The children have started their next text in English writing - Wisp. Wisp is about a boy called Idris who lives in a refugee camp and a Wisp floats in to give him hope of a better future. The children have come up with some lovely adverbs, like gently and delicately, to describe how the Wisp floats in as well as some great time adverbials, such as on one dark night, to describe when it floated in. We can’t wait to read their final narrative in a couple weeks time!

In PE, the children have had a go at doing all Sports Day activities. Next week, the children will practise their chosen activities in preparation for the actual day.

Next week

The children will complete their Summer quizzes Monday - Wednesday. This is NOTHING for them to worry about. It is for them to show off all their Year 3 knowledge.

It is transition day on Thursday morning where the children will go to their new class. Exciting!

3R are swimming on Friday.

Home Learning

Home Learning has been set on Doodle this week, named ‘Recognise right angles.’ The children have been learning that a right angle is a 90 degree angle and it is similar to a capital L. Please ensure this is completed for Wednesday.

Have a great weekend,

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
