Another week of learning!

This week, we have had Jay from Active Sefton in to teach Year 3 about being healthy. The first session on Wednesday focused on the Eatwell Guide. The children played a quiz at the end to guess whether the number of calories was higher or lower than certain foods. The children are becoming much more knowledgeable and confident. This followed on from our Healthy Eating lesson last Friday where the children were asked to complete a food diary.

In line with this, Year 3 have walked over a mile today on the daily mile track. We all enjoyed a wellness walk in the sunshine.

The importance of understanding and recalling times tables is huge. In Maths, we have been focusing on the 8 times tables. These ones are quite tricky to learn so need lots and lots of practice. The children are doing brilliantly and we will continue to practice these in school. Please ensure your child is accessing TTRS daily - this will make a significant difference to their mathematical skills.

Year 3 are continuing their writing work on The Incredible Book Eating Boy. We have looked at synonyms of words to make our writing more detailed, and used writing techniques like similes, comparatives and superlatives to make it more interesting.

Our class worship this week looked at ‘struggles’. We read a story of a butterfly who was struggling to leave its cocoon. Because of this, a photographer helped rip the cocoon but it was actually the butterfly’s duty so that it could strengthen its wings and fly. We discussed how sometimes in order to achieve, overcoming a struggle is necessary and part of the journey to success.

3C had their Golden Ticket Reward on Wednesday. The children came into school in their pyjamas and dressing gowns with a pillow or teddy. They had a movie afternoon with cushions, blankets and popcorn as well as a longer play time. What a treat!

Home Learning

This week’s homework has been set on Doodle, called ‘Count in 8’s’. We would recommend the children writing out the 8 times tables first, like 1 x 8 = 8, to support them.

Please continue to read with your child every night and complete TTRS.

The Spring 1 Home Learning Grid has been uploaded to our ‘Home Learning’ tab. Please complete this over the half term and send us pictures on the Year 3 email - [email protected].

Have a wonderful weekend,

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
