A CURIOUS Science Week!

Wow, what a fantastic week we’ve had discovering lots about Science and being curious. We have had some amazing visitors that have come in to teach Year 3 about STEM, muscles and forces, all topics that link to our Science units.

One visitor focused on ‘How do planes fly?’ which delved into lots of scientific terms like thrust and air resistance. The children had an aeroplane competition to see which one would win - this taught the children that the shape of the wings is a huge factor and that planes are designed specifically for flying.

Dr Hilton, another visitor, brought in Stethoscopes which the children used to listen to their hearts. They listened to their natural beats and then listened to the changes to their heart beat after exercise. They then had a Q&A session all about muscles.

As Year 3’s new topic is forces, the children have done different investigations to learn about gravity, air resistance, friction and magnetism. The children have been involved with SO many experiments, including:

  • Friction ramps with different surfaces and objects
  • Magnetic and non-magnetic objects
  • Investigating which magnet was the strongest out of a possible 6
  • Using magnets to observe them attracting and repelling each other
  • Creating a maze on whiteboards and using a magnet under a whiteboard to drive the paper clip through the maze
  • Parachutes to observe air resistance

And many more!!!

Home Learning

To continue to consolidate our Measure unit, the children should have a sheet for homework which focuses on converting cm and m. Please ensure this is returned to school by Wednesday.

Next Week

Year 3 are super lucky to have a VR experience on Monday following on from Science Week. The fun doesn’t end!!

Friday is another mufti day to raise money for Red Nose Day. As this is our PE day, please ensure your child is wearing something appropriate for athletics.

It is Parents Evening on Tuesday 4:30 - 7:30 - we look forward to seeing you!

Have a wonderful weekend - hopefully the wind goes away!

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
