Year 3 Blog 10.10.25

Date: 10th Oct 2025 @ 3:27pm

What a busy week we’ve had!

On Monday, Year 3 lead a Harvest Service in Church. Through their carefully spoken words, they helped us appreciate the hard work that goes into putting food on our tables each night, from the farmers in the fields to the people who cook and serve our meals. The children's singing was nothing short of beautiful, filling the church with warmth and joy, and their speaking was incredibly clear and confident—every word could be heard and understood, which made the messages they shared even more powerful. It was a heartfelt and uplifting service that left many with a renewed sense of gratitude.

We’ve had a big week in Maths too, introducing the column addition method with exchanging (exchanging ten ones for 1 ten). This is a method which the children will use often so it is super important that they understand it. The children were fantastic and are really starting to get the hang of it. We will continue with this next week and progress further to exchanging ten tens to 1 hundred.

In English, we have started our new poem, ‘Autumn is here’. This allowed us to have our brilliant experience day on Thursday behind St Luke’s Church. We had a Forest School experience where the children built dens out of sticks, had a play on the trim trail, drank hot chocolate and toasted smores by the fire! It was described as the ‘best day ever!!!’

Alongside our Autumnal theme, the children collected little items from our school garden. Using these items, they had to inspect them carefully and draw them relative to size, ensuring to include all the little details. Their artwork completely blew us away. We definitely have some future artists in Year 3.

In RE, we discussed how Christians see God as a trinity (three in one – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit). We then reflected on ourselves and thought about how we would be seen as a trinity. We had ideas such as ‘the good friend’, ‘the footballer’, ‘the minecrafter’, and ‘the dog lover.’  We also discussed our favourite places to pray.

Home Learning

This week, our Home Learning is on Doodle. It is ‘Add 3 digit numbers using column addition.’ This is without exchanging so just simple addition to get the children used to the format.

Please ensure your child is completing this each week. It will consolidate learning completed in school which is extremely beneficial for their progress. The children will receive a stamp each week for completion of their homework.

Next week

We are back to normal next week – no trips or Church visits! Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kits on Monday and Friday. It is also the first Parents Evening slot on Thursday 16th. This is online via teams. A link will be set up next week.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
