Year 3 Blog 09.10.26

Date: 8th Oct 2026 @ 9:39pm

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 3, filled with fantastic learning and some very special moments!

Our week began with a truly special moment as we celebrated our Harvest Service in church on Wednesday. The children were absolutely amazing, and we could not be prouder of them all! They delivered their lines with such confidence, sang beautifully and represented Year 3 brilliantly. It was wonderful to see all their hard work come together in such a lovely celebration. The children should feel incredibly proud of themselves, and we would like to say a huge well done to everyone for making the service so special.

In English, we have come to the end of our writing unit based on The Gardener by Sarah Stewart. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this beautiful story and using it to inspire their own writing. Throughout the unit, they have been developing their vocabulary, sharing their ideas and thinking carefully about how to make their writing engaging for the reader. Next week, the children will begin planning for their Big Write, where they will have the opportunity to put all their fantastic learning into practice. We are looking forward to seeing the wonderful ideas they come up with!

In Maths, the children have excelled in their work on adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s. They have been developing their understanding of place value and learning how the value of a number changes when we add or subtract different amounts. It has been fantastic to see so many children working confidently, explaining their methods and applying their skills to a range of challenges. Well done, Year 3, for your brilliant effort and determination!

Our Science learning has continued to focus on plants, with the children exploring seed dispersal and how new plants grow in different places. We have been learning about the different ways seeds can be dispersed, including by wind, water, animals and through the bursting of seed pods. The children have been thinking about how these methods help plants spread their seeds away from the parent plant and find new places to grow.

We have also been learning about the important stages of pollination. The children have discovered how pollen is transferred from the male part of a flower, called the anther, to the female part, called the stigma. This can happen with the help of insects, such as bees, or through the wind. Once pollination has taken place, fertilisation can occur, allowing seeds to develop. These seeds can then be dispersed and, if they land in suitable conditions, grow into new plants. The children have enjoyed discovering how these different processes work together to help plants reproduce and continue to grow.

Well done, Year 3, on another brilliant week! We are so proud of the hard work, enthusiasm and confidence you continue to show in everything you do. A special well done again for your wonderful Harvest Service performance!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone, and we look forward to another exciting week of learning next week!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
