Welcome back!

The spring term has officially begun and the children have had a lovely first week back.

On Monday, Year 3 told their classes what they got up to over Christmas and what presents they received from Father Christmas. It was lovely seeing the excitement on their faces and to hear about all the quality time spent with family and friends.

In Maths, we have started to learn our 4 times tables. This learning is essential as the children should know their 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 3’s, 4’s and 8’s by the end of Year 3. We have looked at multiplying and dividing by 4 as well as used strategies such as singing and chants to learn them. The children are making fantastic progress with this - well done all!

Our English unit uses the fantastic book ‘The Incredible Book Eating Boy’ by Oliver Jeffers. The children were completely hooked when they saw ripped and half-eaten books in our classrooms on Tuesday!! They became detectives trying to figure out who had done it. We now know it is an 8 year old boy called Henry who cannot stop eating books! Based on this, the children will eventually write their own narrative.

We have started our gymnastic unit too. The starting activity involved the children practicing different shapes with their body, for example star and tuck. Then, using mats and benches, we practised the forward roll, the log roll and the ‘rock’ and roll to create sequences. Each group created something different which was fantastic to watch.

On Thursday, Year 3 went on a trip to Eureka! What a fabulous day we had full of learning, discovery and fun!! The day started with a ‘Gross Labs’ show which taught us about the important roles all the ‘gross’ things are body has. Year 3 learned about why they shouldn’t pick their scabs, why we burp, why we are sick and the importance of washing our hands properly. Year 3 then had the opportunity to explore the 3 galleries: nature, home and bodies.

Next Week

3C are having their Golden Ticket reward party on Wednesday afternoon. The children have decided that they would like to come to school in their pyjamas, watch a film and eat popcorn. The children can also bring in a small cushion to sit on too if they would like.

Active Sefton are starting their first of three sessions, teaching the children about Healthy Eating and keeping our bodies healthy. Miss Cook and Mrs Roberts introduced this today and have sent a food diary home for your child to fill in. Please ensure your child fills this in each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Home Learning

Home learning has been set on Doodle this week, labelled ‘Count in 4’s’. This is to consolidate this week’s learning in maths. Please ensure this is completed by Wednesday. Please also continue to complete daily reading and TTRS.

Thank you for your support,

Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
