Books, books and more books!
In honour of World Book Day, we have focused more on reading this week. The children have enjoyed reading for pleasure, reading to adults and have enjoyed the class novel at the end of the school days.
In Guided Reading, Year 3 have focused on developing their comprehension skills. We have looked at the ‘skim and scan’ technique to quickly look for key words and find the correct answers. As well, within the stories, Year 3 are asked retrieval questions and inference questions to ensure the story has been understood. The children’s love for reading has really shone through and it is clear that their confidence is growing.
We have continued our Measurement unit in Maths and have focused on equivalent lengths - cm and mm, and m and cm. The children have a great understanding of there being 100cm in 1m and there being 10mm in 1 cm and which unit of measure is appropriate to use for different objects.
In Worship, Year 3 recalled the story of Jesus being in the wilderness for 40 days with no food. Year 3 then watched a video of ‘The Marshmallow Test’ to learn about self-control, like Jesus did despite the devil tempting him to eat. Year 3 learned that self-control is something that can grow and with it, it can lead to a healthier life.
Yesterday was World Book Day - it was FANTASTIC to see so many brilliant costumes and how enthusiastic the children were about reading. The children read for pleasure in the morning and some were even involved in a book swap. We made lots of time to read our class novel and use predictions to guess what would happen next. Each child received a token for a book as well as a bookmark to end a fabulous day.
Home Learning
There is no Doodle homework this week. Instead your child should have received an activity sheet about converting between mm and cm. This is something we have practiced in school this week.
Please ensure this is returned to school by Wednesday and your child will receive a stamp!
Next Week
It is Science Week! Our focus is on curiosity and Mrs Murdock has worked extremely hard putting together lots of exciting workshops and activities for the children to enjoy. Year 3 are going to experience lots of different workshops about Forces which links to our topic this half term. It is going to be so much fun!!!
