The beginning of Summer 2
Welcome back!
The children have settled back into school beautifully for our final half term and what a busy one it will be.
The children have started this week by planning their letter for their new reception buddy. As they go into Year 4, they will be buddied up with a new child in reception to be their support system and their friend. The children have been planning what to say to them to make them feel comfortable and about all the wonderful things St. Luke’s has to offer. To refresh their memories about reception, the children spent 30 minutes in reception and asked them lots of important questions and played with them.
In Maths, the children have started their learning about statistics. So far, they have interpreted pictograms as well as drew them. The children know to use their times tables for when 1 image doesn’t represent 1 thing. For example, 1 circle = 2 footballs - use 2 times tables.
Light is our focus in science this half term. The children have started their learning by looking at what light and dark is, and sources of light such as the sun. This will continue into looking at sources that are light because of reflections, such as the moon.
The children have finished their last Latin lesson about the origins of language. They have learned lots of new words such as aqua, optimus and victoria as well as understood the importance of word order in English and word endings in Latin.
Home Learning
A huge well done to those children who completed their time homework over half term and brought in their fabulous clock. This week, home learning has been set on Doodle named, ‘Use metric units for mass, capacity and length.’ This consolidates learning from last half term.
Next week
On Friday, it is 3R’s first swimming session. Please ensure your child has everything they need - swimming costume/trunks, a towel and a swimming cap. Goggles and a hairbrush are optional. Please ensure your child does not have earrings in.
Have a great weekend,
Year 3 Team
