Year 3 Blog 03.07.26

Date: 3rd Jul 2026 @ 2:24pm

A very very busy week!

Year 3 started their exciting week off with Sports Day at Range High School. They had a brilliant morning racing and cheering on their friends. Well done to all the children for trying their absolute best and celebrating each other’s achievements. It was lovely to see some of you there too.

Today, the children completed Doodle as a Friday treat and the word was baton - very fitting since the relay race on Monday!

The children also visited Liverpool Cathedral on Tuesday to take part in the Big Sing. Year 3 got the coach to the Cathedral and had a rehearsal when they arrived. After lunch, it was time to perform! The children sang BEAUTIFULLY and lit up the room with their voices. They represented St. Luke’s perfectly and had a lovely day. Well done Year 3!

In English, the children are continuing to build their story of Wisp. They have come up with lovely adverbs and time adverbials to use so far.

The children have been focusing on money this week in Maths, recapping what each coin/note looks like and their value. The children also recapped that there are 100p in £1 which means 347p = £3.47. With this, they have also added and subtracted money and began to find change from certain amounts. This is a tricky concept as money involves a decimal point which we haven’t seen before.

Geography has also been a big focus this week, continuing the topic of ‘UK today.’ The children explored different mountains and mountain ranges and learned interesting facts such as, Ben Nevis is the largest mountain in the UK. Another important fact is that a mountain classifies as a mountain if it is over 600m above sea level. Following on from this was counties - we discussed that we live in Merseyside and distinguished between the physical and human features we have here.

Home learning

This week’s home learning is all about money. It is a printed sheet so please ensure this is completed by Wednesday.

Next week

Monday morning will be very exciting as the children get to watch St. Luke’s Got Talent.

It is Mufti Day on Thursday - the children can come in dressed as what they want to be when they grow up.

On Friday, it is 3R’s last swimming lesson.

Have a lovely weekend all,

Year 3 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
