Year 2 Weekly Blog 3.10.25

Date: 3rd Oct 2025 @ 11:47am

A lovely autumnal week we have had in year two. We really have left summer behind and are enjoying the darker mornings and cosier evenings. The children have been sharing their autumn experiences from home and we have been making comparisons to how life in autumn would have been in the Victorian times – no heating, no electricity, no indoor toilet, no warm baths, no cosy evenings watching a movie!

In English we have finished our modelled write and the children are now thinking about what they want to happen in their own independent stories. The children have been planning for their chosen animal to come and visit Formby or Liverpool. We will be continuing with the planning of our stories next week.

In Maths, we have been comparing objects and numbers as well as looking at number lines. The children have been using different resources to determine if a number is greater than or less than another number. They have also been estimating where numbers go on a number line. For more information on what the children are learning in maths, please visit the home learning tab as our home learning task is aimed to consolidate their weeks learning.

During Art the children have started drawing leaves with metallic crayons, ready to add some beautiful crystal paint effects next week. The children have practised different drawing  techniques to ensure their leaves have enough detail. We’re very excited to see the final products next week!

In History the children discovered the first ever lifeboat station was in Formby! We looked at what it was, what it was used for and what remains of it today. Some of the children were really excited to find they have seen the leftover bricks on the beach before.

Our wonderful musicians were busy creating a soundscape this week, thinking back to our previous learning the children had to think about the sounds they would hear in either the city, countryside or coast. They then created a soundscape which they will use in groups next week as they perform their piece to the rest of the class.

PE this week brought us some continued throwing and catching skills as well as some new gymnastics moves. The children were challenged with coming up with a 1,2,3 and 4-point balance.

Over the course of the week the children have thrown themselves into our provision challenges. They have written postcards to home, imagining they were in Paris. They have completed several maths activities, been getting used to logging into chrome books, letter formation practice and creating their own version of the Mona Lisa.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
