Year 2 Weekly Blog 27.2.26

Date: 27th Feb 2026 @ 2:47pm

Welcome back!

We hope you've all had a lovely break, it's been lovely welcoming the children back, and seeing their excitement for our new topic SUPERHEROES!

As you can imagine the children have loved being able to dress up in class as their favourite superhero within the areas and role play with their friends. They've also been busy in the creative making lolly pop stick superheroes, exploring arrays in the maths area and making comic strips in the writing area.

In English this term we are exploring SUPERTATO where the children will be writing a modelled write with us, then working on an independent write where they will create their own SUPPER VEGGIE and EVIL VEGGIE story. We've looked at adding questions to our writing this week also, along with setting the scene and similies.

We have moved onto multiplication and division this term and the children have gone through arrays, making groups of and the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We have sent home a login for TTRockstars for the children to practice at home.

During History this term we will be looking at real life superheroes and this began this week when we looked at Tim Peake, the first British astronaut to visit space.

In Computing out topic this term is photography - a firm favourite! We discussed with the children what devices can take photos, how to take a good picture and the difference between landscape and portrait. The children then practiced with an ipad taking both portrait and landscape pictures of a superhero toy.

During PSHE we discussed our private parts. We were really impressed with the maturity the children showed during this conversation. We talked about the real names for our private parts and why it is important to keep these parts private and what we should do if someone asks to see or touch them. We will be continuing this next week.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
