Year 2 Weekly Blog 26.4.24

Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 5:04pm

What a great week we have had in year 2! During English we began our modelled diary of The Great Fire of London and the children have been exploring a range of different vocabulary and grammar focuses including adding the suffix -est for words describing how warm Thomas Farriner's bakery would have been the night of the fire.

In Maths, we have concluded our learning on 3D shapes and began looking at time. The children have been practicing telling and drawing the time for o'clock and half past. Any additional practice at home would be really recommended, thank you!

Thank you for sending the children in with their special book, we really enjoyed the introduction to sacred books in RE and sharing each others special books. We had such a range from first story books, special note books, photo albums, collection books and nursery books.

We had a great time in outdoor PE, the children were practicing jumping with different circuits, hop scotch, ladder jumping and hurdles!

In Geography we have been looking at the United Kingdom, focusing on the 4 countries, their capital cities and the seas surrounding the UK. The children practiced writing these on whiteboard maps and then we made tea stained maps and labelled them.

In History we discussed how the fire service has changed and improved since 1666 and the children looked through different pictures of hoses, carts, buckets, fire engines and decided which belonged to our fire service now and which to back in 1666.

We also enjoyed some science work when clearing the planters to get them ready for planting next week. We got a surprise when we discovered a bird's nest with eggs in!

We hope you have a gorgeous weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
