Year 2 weekly blog 12.9.25

Date: 12th Sep 2025 @ 3:08pm

We have had a wonderfully busy week in year 2! The children are now fully settled and adapting to year 2 routines beautifully, we are really proud of them all.

During our English we have been thinking about how our lion is feeling, now that he has made the journey from the grasslands to Paris. We have been comparing the differences between the grasslands and a busy city like Paris and imagining how terrifying or exciting that would be for the lion. The children have been coming up with fabulous vocabulary when forming their sentences each day.

In Maths we have been using tens and ones and part whole models to partition numbers 1-100. The children have been facing many challenges around the classroom in relation to this and have really enjoyed getting practical when solving them. For more information on maths, please see our home learning tab.

In other areas, we have been thinking about where we live and what is around our special home of Formby. The children have looked at a variety of maps, such as Farmer teds, Formby, Gullivers World and Windmill Farm. In the areas of the classroom the children have then been building their own maps in the construction, drawing maps in the creative and they all created a map of the classroom.

In Art this week we looked at famous artists who are collectors. We then went on a scavenger hunt around school to be collectors ourselves. The children collected leaves to bring back to the classroom for them to sketch.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
