Year 2 blog 20.6.25

Date: 19th Jun 2025 @ 6:11pm

We have had an absolutely fantastic week in Year 2! A highlight of the year for us all I am sure!

Art week has brought around so many fun, creative (and messy!) activities and we have had such a wonderful time getting creative. As I’m sure you have all seen the children spent a whole day creating their habitat boxes. We were so impressed with the level of detail the children went into when thinking about their chosen habitats. The children showed such patience, perseverance and artistic flair, it really was a lovely day for us all.

On Monday we got super messy introducing the children to paper mâché, this would be one of those things I would recommend to not try at home, but the children enjoyed it so much it might end up sneaking into your summer holidays plans – luckily for us, the children are expert at tidying! It was amazing to see the children get completely stuck into it, pva up to the elbows! Once dry, we went back for a second layer and then on Friday we painted them to create portraits of ourselves!

Sticking with this years art week theme of ‘portraits’ the children have lots of lovely opportunities to learn how to sketch faces. They practised how to change the details on their drawings to change the emotion of that face.

We also had the amazing Last Act in this week and we were fortunate enough to have our own dance and singing lesson with their wonderful teachers. The children learnt a dance to the Greatest Showman and sang A Million Dreams, we all loved the experience!

On Wednesday we had such a lovely morning travelling to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic to see a Bear Hunt. We have to say how extremely proud we are of the children; their behaviour was absolutely impeccable and all the grown ups said after how proud they were! The show was fantastic, the children and adults were mesmerised. We were very impressed with how many of the instruments the children could identify in the orchestra, thinking back to our orchestra unit.

We finished the week with a live performance from Make Noise Choir! What a fabulous week!

We hope you all have a gorgeous weekend!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
