Year 2 Blog

Date: 14th Nov 2025 @ 2:43pm

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term. Apologies for the missing blog last week – it’s been a very fun, festive two weeks in year two. The children are buzzing with excitement over the Nativity, as we are sure you have all heard lots about at home. Parts have been given, songs are being learnt, lines have gone home and any costume requests and tickets have also gone home.

In Maths we are combating the tricky column method. The children this week have worked on simple addition and addition with renaming. We are really proud of how the children are approaching this and have sent a column addition sheet home for home learning for extra practice.

In English, the children have been learning and writing about Christmas in Mexico. We have broken our writing down into plot points of: when is it celebrated, what is the weather like, decorations, celebrations and food. Next week we shall be looking at Spain!

The children began their DT project this term, which is sewing a Christmas pouch. They designed what their pouch would look like and have picked their colour felt ready to begin sewing next week.

During science the children have been investigating material suitability and also researching famous inventors.

Our afternoons have heavily consisted of lots of Nativity practice. The children are extremely excited for the stage to go up on Monday!

We hope the weekend weather brightens up and you all have a wonderful weekend.

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
