Another Brilliant Week in Year 2!
We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 2, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum.
This week, we have continued our journey through The Lion in Paris. The children have been working hard to make their writing even more exciting! We have explored expanded noun phrases, choosing brilliant adjectives to describe the lion and the sights of Paris. We have also developed our vocabulary by choosing strong verbs and practised joining our ideas using and and but. We are really starting to see some wonderful sentences!
In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of numbers to 100. We practised estimating where numbers belong on a number line and reading and writing numbers in both digits and words. We have also explored place value, thinking carefully about the value of the tens and ones in two-digit numbers. We finished the week by putting our number skills to the test during arithmetic.
We have been getting creative in Art! The children experimented with continuous line drawings. This encouraged them to look closely and explore different ways of drawing. We also created detailed fine-line leaf drawings in our sketchbooks. In Computing, we discussed what is and isn't information technology and enjoyed using the Bee-Bots with maps to develop our programming and directional language.
Our PSHE learning has focused on our feelings, boundaries and trusted adults. We talked about ways to express our feelings kindly and calmly, how we can tell somebody when something is not okay for us, and who we can speak to if something doesn't feel right. We have also continued our RE learning about Judaism.
We have been very active this week! During our outdoor games lesson, we developed our throwing, catching and teamwork skills through lots of different games and relay activities. We also continued our gymnastics learning, building our confidence in movement and control.
In Music, we are thinking about how different sounds can be combined to create a picture or atmosphere through music. The children have loved this!
The children have continued to enjoy lots of opportunities to independently apply their learning through our continuous provision areas. From Bee-Bots and map drawing to our autumn kitchen, nature art and mindfulness activities, it has been lovely to see the children learning through exploration, creativity and play.
We are so proud of how hard everyone has worked this week. Well done, Year 2!
