Year 2 Blog 4.7.25

Date: 4th Jul 2025 @ 3:23pm

Another busy week in Year 2! We can't believe we've only got a few more weeks left of the school year as the weeks are flying by!

This week, we have continued writing our poem 'If I were in charge of the school' and have been very impressed with the children's creative ideas including Taylor Swift being their teacher, various footballers teaching them PE and have a talking T-rex as a school pet! We look forward to completing the final verse of our poem next week and the children will be starting to plan their own poems 'If I were in charge of the World'.

During our topic work, we have been exploring animal life cycles further. The children have shown real curiosity sharing and reading books about various animals to learn about their life cycles and took care and attention drawing life cycles of their own. A  firm favourite was the life cycle of a chick!

Wednesday brought lots of fun for Sports Day! We were so proud of the children's competitive but friendly spirit as they cheered on all of their friends too.

During maths, we have continued focus on volume and capacity. The children have had fun pouring liquids into containers to match various volumes and are becoming increasingly accurate reading the scale in ml. We have also been practising applying our arithmetic skills to solve word problems involving volume and capacity. The children are becoming increasingly familiar with the use of bar models to help 'break' the problem down into manageable chunks of meaning.

We have also been learning about a balanced diet and food groups. The children worked well in small groups to sort various foods into their food groups in preparation for us designing a healthy wrap as part of our DT work.  Next week, the children will be tasting a variety of fillings and will then choose their favourite combinations to design a wrap. They will then follow their own design to make their own wrap.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
