Year 2 Blog 26.9.25

Date: 23rd Sep 2025 @ 5:51pm

Another busy week for year 2! In English we have been continuing with our modelled write of 'The Lion in Paris'. The children learnt about the Eiffel Tower as well as other famous landmarks in Paris this week, thinking about our super describing words to desribe the tall, metal, pointy, towering tower! The children also had a challenge this week of writing and posting a letter to our lion, asking him to consider visiting Formby. The children loved the playrole behind this as well as writing to our lonely lion. In other areas around the classroom, the children were challenged with creating their very own Eiffel tower, whether that was in the construction or the creative. We had some very detailed designs and a lot of fabulous team work!

In Maths, the children have been counting in 10s and estimating the position of numbers on a number line, as well as visiting our maths areas to consolidate their learning. We have had tanagrams made of the Eiffel tower, using 2D shapes and a challenge to roll a number, make it with dienes, find the words of the number and then write the number. Please see our home learning tab for more information on this week's maths learning as well as our maths home learning task.

In Art, the children practised a new drawing technique of continuous line drawing.  They all really enjoyed having a go!  During RE, we looked back on our precious objects from last week and related it to how Jewish people feel about a Mezuzah. We explained to the children what one is and why it is so important in a Jewish home.

PSHE brought us a rich conversation about different families, and how they look different for everyone and not every family unit is the same. The children created their own family, inventing names, thinking about different diversities.

For our topic work this week the children looked at what houses looked like during the Victorian times and compared them to the modern houses we live in now. We have also continued thinking about what makes Formby special and the children have been coming up with their favourite places including the beach, pinewoods, library, McDonalds, Don Luigi's, Emily's, the park, swimming pool etc. They have been given chances to explore this in the creative area and either draw or make their favourite place in Formby.

We ended our week with some lovely time with our year 6 buddies, sharing some stories in the willow garden.

We hope you all have a wonderfully autumnal weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
