Another Brilliant Week in Year 2!

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 2, with lots of fantastic exploring & learning taking place!

This week, we have continued our journey through The Lion in Paris. We have explored the Lion’s adventure through the city, thinking carefully about how he might be feeling as he experiences unfamiliar places and begins his search for friendship. The children have been developing their vocabulary, using new and exciting words in their sentences and thinking about different ways to make their writing more interesting. Towards the end of the week, we explored the Eiffel Tower, generating some brilliant adjectives to describe this famous Paris landmark!

In Maths, we have been working hard on our understanding of place value. We have practised recognising tens and ones, partitioning two-digit numbers and using part-whole models.

Our learning about places and homes has continued this week. We explored maps and map keys and worked together to create maps of our classroom and learning environment. We have also been learning about different types of homes, including detached houses, semi-detached houses, terraced houses, flats and bungalows.

We have been putting lots of care and effort into our handwriting this week. The children have been practising their letter formation, pencil grip and presentation, and we are already seeing some fantastic improvements. Keep it up, Year 2!

In PSHE, we explored the question “How are we all different and the same?” We enjoyed finding out more about one another and discussing the things we have in common as well as the things that make each of us unique.

There has been plenty of exciting learning happening through our provision too! The children have enjoyed number activities, exploring different types of homes and using their learning about Paris throughout the classroom. We even challenged the children to use different materials to build iconic landmarks in Paris!

We are so proud of how hard everyone has worked this week. The children have shown some brilliant attitudes towards their learning and it has been lovely to see their confidence continue to grow.

Well done, Year 2! Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week!

Mrs Roberts, Miss Murphy and the Year 2 Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
