Year 2 Blog 25.4.25

Date: 25th Apr 2025 @ 2:37pm

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break and the children enjoyed some well deserved time off.

We have got stuck right into our new topic 'The Great Fire of London' and the children are showing great enthusiasm for the topic, it always seems to be a firm favourite! We've spoken at length about the fire and how it started in Thomas Farrier's bakery on Pudding Lane. We have been looking at what the oven in the bakery would have been like back in 1666 and how different they are from ours at home today. We discussed what houses were made of in 1666 and how that also differs from today. We thought about why this helped the fire to spread and how did the fire affect how we build houses now. The children then made their own house using strips of paper and straw, representing the wooden beams and straw roofs.

In English we continued speaking about The Great Fire of London and have explained to the children we will be writing a diary that spans across the 5 days the fire roared on for. We have started our modelled write where we are a rat hiding out in Thomas Farrier's bakery the night the oven is left burning.

We have come to the end of 2D shapes in Maths this week and have sent home a home learning booklet on shape, please see the home learning tab for more information. We will be moving on to 3D shape next week.

We had a lovely afternoon in RE sharing our special books, it was lovely to see the variety of books the children brought in and to hear what makes it special to them. We were able to relate our special books back to special sacred texts.

We were treated to a live performance of the Jungle Book on Friday morning! It was a fabulous way to start the day and end the week, with singing dancing and fabulous costumes! We ended the week meeting up with our buddies! We have recieved letters from children at another school and our buddy helped us to write a letter back using the chromebooks.

Just a reminder that PE days from next week are Tuesday and Thursday

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, the weather is looking amazing for next week!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
