What a SUPER week we have had in Year 2!  From Superhero Day to Red Nose Day.. it definitely has been a fun (and busy) week! The children all looked fantastic in their chosen Supehero Day and Red Nose Day outfits.

On Monday, the children LOVED having a VR science session all about minibeasts and their habitat. On Tuesday, the children had a visitor who demonstrated lots of exciting science experiements including exploring if water could move upwards.

This week, the children started planning their own Superhero stories, inspired by our class write and book 'Supertato'. The children invented their own heroes and villians, with Bad Banana and Super Strawberry to name a few! Next week, we will be writing our stories and ready to put all of the super language we have taken from our class write into individual stories.

During DT, the children enjoyed exploring linkages and levers and designed their own moving monster. On Superhero Day, the children loved making their moving monsters and we were very impressed with their careful cutting and perseverance making and linking the linkages so that their monster moved. Very impressive and colourful moving monsters by the end of the day! Superhero Day also brought lots of fun team games including pass the hoop whilst holding hands, cross the swap and lining up in height order without talking.

This week, we have also been considering symbols that represent Easter and what they remind us of. Lots of children acknowledged the Easter bunny was Easter fun, but didn't really link with the Easter story and recognised spring flowers, lambs and chicks as new life to remind them of when Jesus rose again and the cross on hot cross buns reminding them when Jesus died on the cross. We also discovered the meanings behind the symbols on the Paschal candle and the children designed their own candle.

During maths, we have been practising telling the time on an analogue clock including o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past times. Ongoing practice of this is beneficial. Please see the Home Learning page for more information about this week's maths task.

We look forward to our final week of term before a (hopefully sunny) Easter break.

Have a wonderful weekend.
The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
