Year 2 blog 19.9.25

Date: 18th Sep 2025 @ 8:46pm

What a lovely week we have had in year two. We have been continuing with our ‘Where we live’ topic and the children have had lots of time to create their own maps and houses, whether that’s been in the creative, construction or writing areas.

During English we have continued taking our lion on an adventure round Paris. The children have been thinking about how our lion is feeling at different points on his trip and using brilliant vocabulary to describe the impressive landmarks he is witnessing for the first time.

In Maths we have continued partitioning numbers to 100 in as many ways as we can think of. The children have had lots of practical challenges to support their learning of this throughout the week.

We have also been thinking about what makes Formby special and whether they are a human or physical feature. The children named lots of their favourite human made features such as Jungle Play, Emily’s, Formby Pool Park, the swimming pool, library etc. We then spoke about the physical features in Formby that make it special, places like the beach, pinewoods, sand dunes, Cambridge field.

In computing we have been looking at what IT is and how we use it at home and in school and for what purpose. Is it for entertainment? Is it to do a job? Is it to communicate with people?

We shared some lovely precious items during RE this week which encouraged such fascinating conversations as to why these items mean so much to us. This is going to lead nicely on to our Judaism topic as we move onto thinking about what is special to Jewish people.

We have been historians this week, discovering how homes have changed over the years. The children were challenged with guesses some unknown artefacts from a Victorian house, thinking about what the use might be and what we use now instead.

In Music the children have been showcases their beautiful singing voices as we discover the sounds of the coast and countryside. We have sung lavender’s blue and my Bonnie lies over the oceans.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
