Year 2 blog 19.4.24

Date: 18th Apr 2024 @ 8:14pm

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Easter! A massive thank you for the warm wishes and very generous gifts for the new Mrs Avis!

We have kick started this term looking at The Great Fire of London. This topic has been a firm favourite every year and it's been no different this year. The children have really enjoyed getting busy learning new facts, creating timelines, making 1666 style houses and beginning a new Great Fire of London dance.

In Maths we have begun looking at 3D shape, identifying different properites and investigating how we can group these different shapes. We were so impressed with the children's prior knowledge of 3D shapes and they have really enjoyed getting practical with the shapes each day. We have set some assignments on Doodle to consolidate what we have been learning this week.

During English, we have been looking at different diaries, including Samuel Pepys' diary. This term we will be writing our own diaries as if we were witnesses to the Great Fire of London.

In Music, this week we have been singing whilst playing an instrument at the same time. We started by saying and clapping rhythms of our names, then singing a song and playing the pulse using an instrument and the children were suggesting how to make different sound effects for songs.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and the weather stays nice and sunny!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
