Year 2 Blog - 18.9.26

Date: 17th Sep 2026 @ 2:37pm

This week has been filled with such joy as we continued to explore our homes from the past topic. We became history detectives this week when trying to work out what the special artefact was. We had some amazing ideas including an old fashioned potty, a teapot, something to heat up water and then, one correct answer, which was a hot water bottle! The children were fascinated by the fact that water bottles used to be made of stone and they were even more amazed to find out that the only source of heat in a house would have come from the coal fire!

We have begun looking at our story for English, A Lion in Paris, tying this into our Geography. We have looked at landmarks in Paris and where in the world Paris is. The children are looking forward to finding out about the adventures lion has in his new city which is very different from the grasslands of Africa.

Within maths we have been looking at place value and have been using the base ten materials to represent various numbers. We have done lots of counting and problem solving to find missing numbers and our homework this week will help to reinforce this.

Yesterday, you should have recieved a school spider notification about our up and coming trip. Apologies for the short notice but it was the only date available and it is such a wonderful trip. It is to enhance our learning in History and really will bring our learning to life.

This week our homework has been set on Doodle maths. The children in 2M will continue to use their user names and passwords from last year. However, due to a problem when handing up the classes, 2R have new passwords and possibly a new user name. These were sent home in book bags last night.

Finally, we are looking forward to seeing you all at our year group meeting next Wednesday. Our meeting will take place at 5:30 in the school library. It will be led by Mrs Roberts, alongside Miss Murphy and Mrs Horrocks. Hoping to see you there!

Fingers crossed for a sunny weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
