Year 2 blog 16.5.25

Date: 15th May 2025 @ 10:24am

What a wonderful sunny week, with the weather so beautiful it's difficult to not enjoy ourselves!

This week we have continued learning how to tell the time, the children have been telling the time to o'clock, half part, quarter past, quarter to and to 5 minutes. Any additional practice at home would be really helpful, we have also set some time home learning on Doodle, if you have a look on the home learning tab there is more information on there.

We have been planning our own diary entry this week for The Great Fire of London and some of us have made a start writing our entries. The children have really enjoyed using their imagination and immersing themselves in this topic, picturing how Pudding Lane and the rest of London would have been like on that terrible day in 1666.

The children learnt about a significant person in history, the famous Florence Nightingale. We spoke a lot about how the changes Florence made to hospitals and to nurses and how different the roles of a nurse are now. We also looked at significant people within the community and the impact they have on other. We spoke about our parents and the roles they play in the community, from waitors, to nurses, to cake makers, to party planners, to lawyers and physio's. The children loved sharing and loved hearing about the other important people within our community.

During outdoor games we have been practicing different jumping. From one foot to one foot, two feet to two feet and two feet to one hop. The children then used their skills in a game of jump relay!

We hope the sun keeps shining over the weekend, have a lovely one!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
