Year 2 blog 16.1.16

Date: 15th Jan 2026 @ 1:25pm

A lovely, albeit quiet week in year 2, we really hope everyone is feeling better soon! In Maths we have started looking at money this week, so be prepared to be asked for any spare change, we have some very keen children wanting to play shop :) The children have really surprised us with their knowledge of coins and notes, especially being an 'apple pay' generation. They have been recognising coins and adding amounts together. We will continue to look at money next week also and the children will be given lots of opportunities to role play toy shop. Our home learning task this week is on Doodle, please see the home learning tab for more information.

In English we have moved onto our 4th plot point; 'a strange librarian'. The children have been writing about Little Red Reading Hood's journey to the library and describing what the wolf is up to now.

During computing we have started looking at algorithms and the children are making a set of simple instructions using vocabularly such as 'forward', 'left', 'right', 'turn', 'backwards'.

For topic we have been looking at features of a traditional tale. The children have been getting their thinking caps on and exploring different tales trying to find what they have in common. We spoke about having a happy ending, starting with Once upon a time, talking animals, a bad character etc.

We spent time exploring this week as part of our Art 'stick transformation project. The children were to search for an object they could use as the 'root' of their creation. They laid this on large white paper and then gathered other objects from around the room that could be used at the 'shoots'. They let their imagination and creativity take over and we saw some wonderful designs!

In gymnastics we looked at different rolls. The children tried a variety of different rolls; teddy bear roll, foward roll, pencil roll, log roll, egg roll and dish roll. The children thought about how to create a slow and controlled roll and spent time practicing these.

We hope you all have a lovely, relaxed weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
