Year 2 Blog - 16.10.26

Date: 16th Oct 2026 @ 3:55pm

We have had another fantastic and busy week in Year 2!

In English, we have continued our journey through The Lion in Paris. We explored the Lion’s feelings and used them to explain why he felt a certain way. We finished the week by imagining what the Lion might be thinking when he finally found the perfect place for him in Paris!

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of numbers. We practised representing numbers in numerals and words, used place value to support us and estimated where numbers belong on a number line. We also had lots of fun comparing amounts using greater than, less than and equal to, remembering that our hungry crocodile always wants to eat the bigger number!

Our History learning took us back in time as we discovered more about Formby’s past, including Formby’s historic lifeboat station. When you walking along Formby Beach, you may be able to spot it!

In Art, we continued exploring autumn and nature, carefully drawing leaves and experimenting with wax crayons as part of our wax-resist artwork.

We have also been busy across the wider curriculum. In PE, we developed our throwing, catching and teamwork skills through different games and challenges. In PSHE, we talked about who we can speak to if something does not feel right and what we should do if somebody is repeatedly unkind. We have also continued enjoying our Learn and Explore time, putting our learning into practice independently.

Of course, one of the highlights of the week was our school disco! We had a brilliant time dancing, having fun with our friends and showing off some fantastic moves!

A friendly reminder that children may bring glass animals into school, but should bring no more than 10. These must not be traded with friends and should be kept away during lessons. Any animals taken out during lesson time will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day. Thank you for your support.

What a wonderful week, Year 2. We are so proud of all your hard work and enthusiasm!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
