We are absolutely flying through this term! A few sniffles and sore throats this week with the rain making a comeback, but the sun is shining again and we are all looking forward to our final week.

This week the children began learning about The Plague and were really interested in how illness’ and diseases were dealt with in 1666 – nothing like we do now! However, we were able to make some comparisons to covid. We also looked closer into King Charles 2nd and his role in both The Plague and The Great Fire of London.

Speaking of the Great Fire of London, the children spent this week writing their own GFL diaries from the perspective of Samuel Pepys. They have been building up to this all term and we are very much looking forward to reading over them next week. The children will be given the opportunity to go back over and red pen edit their diaries, looking for missing capital letters, full stops, spelling mistakes, missing words etc getting us ready for juniors!

In Outdoor games we practiced our throwing (javelin style) and jumping (ladder jumps, hurdles, long and high jump) and the children enjoyed a circuit of different activities.

We had our final music lesson this week, where the children were able to create their own notations for the song ‘Once a Man fell in a Well’.

We have also began touching on measure and capacity this week, taking our learning outside to give the children challenges of jumping and measuring our jumps and measuring different amounts of water in the water tray.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend – one more week to go!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
