A fabulously busy week in year two as we are edging closer to the end of term.
The children have finished planning their own stories for our English this week and will begin writing them independently on Monday. We have had some wonderful ideas and we have really enjoyed brainstorming different adventures for our animal characters to embark on.
In Maths the children have been counting in 2’s,3’s,5’s and 10’s. Please see the home learning tab for more information on their maths learning journey and the home learning the children can do at home to support this.
In computing we looked at barcodes and where you might find them, what they do and what other equipment would be needed to use them. The children have their own tasks of being the computer and decoding different barcodes, then figuring out how much items cost.
During the science we continued looking at house materials and the suitability of them. The children learnt why wood, brick, glass, metal and clay were suitable materials for different parts of a house. In geography we looked at Shyria and made comparisons to Formby, we discovered lots of new things about Shyria and how different it looks to our lives here in the UK. The children have continued to learn about this in our provision areas.
In RE the children have been learning about the Jewish celebration Shabbat. We looked at why Shabbat is celebrated, what happens during it, what preparations are made beforehand and what is needed. The children then had the opportunity to design their own shabbat table, with challah bread, kiddush cups, shabbat candles and wine.
Our musicians were busy again this week, bringing instruments into their soundscapes and having a practice of their piece ready to show the rest of the class next week.
We hope you all have a relaxing weekend,
The Year 2 Team
