Year 2 27.6.25

Date: 24th Jun 2025 @ 2:55pm

What an exciting week we have had in Year 2!

The week was off to a super start on Monday as we had a busy but fantastic day at Martin Mere. The children enjoyed investigating animal and plant life during our pond dipping activity and were amazed with how much life there was in a pond habitat. We saw lots of ducks, flamingoes and otters as we explored Martin Mere's ground and even enjoyed jumping over the stepping stones!  No soggy socks we are pleased to report. The children showed great exploration and observations skills during our minibeast hunt. Some children even found a newt which was a welcomed suprise! We were very proud of the children's beahviour and how inquistive they all were, as well as the super partner and team work skills. Time spent in the play area was also a highlight!

During the week, the children have also enjoyed opportunities to further develop their understanding of living things and their habitats. We reflected on our very creative habitat boxes and wrote about the plants and animals that live there and also began to discuss animal life cycles, matching up animal young to their adults. The children were suprised to find out that the same baby animal name is used for different aniamls.  We also stuck to our animal theme in music as the children worked with instruments to create sounds for different animals including hippos, elephants and lions.

We have also spent time practising some of our races for Sports Day next week and have had fun creating a poem 'If I were in charge of the school'. There have been lots of great suggestions including pencils that are strawberry laces and desks made of chocolate to name a few.  During maths, the children have been exploring volume and capacity. We have been comparing the volume of containers and deciding if they are more or less than a litre and have begun to measure using
ml.

Friday brought lots of excitement when the children had the opportunity to visit Year 3 and meet the Year 3 Team.

We look forward to another fun week next week!

Reminders of events for next week:

2M have their Golden Ticket Celebration on Monday - own clothes and bring a toy.

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
